Read our tips on how to spring clean your home
Nothing beats coming home to a clean and sparkling home but for many of us, that can feel like an unachievable dream. Use our easy spring cleaning tips and make your home a more pleasant and liveable space in time for summer. Also, if you are planning to put your property on the market, you will make it picture perfect and save you work packing later on too.
Wash your windows
Windows let light into our homes so the cleaner they are the more light they let in.
Wash your windows on a cloudy day to avoid the sun drying them faster than you are washing them. This will help you to avoid leaving streaks on the glass.
Use a cloth with a mixture of washing-up liquid and water to remove any dirt build-up. Dry off with old newspaper. Use a microfibre cloth to polish
Make your stainless steel sparkle
Mix together 1tsp of washing-up liquid with 1L of hot water. Use a cloth to rub the solution onto marks. Then rinse it off with hot water and dry with a clean cloth.
Make your pots and pans look as good as new
Simmer a mixture of water and washing up liquid in a pan on a low heat to help to remove burned-on food residue. Then use a scouring pad to remove any remaining stuck-on bits.
Ketchup is brilliant at dissolving tarnish on copper pots. Rub the ketchup over the area that is tarnished and then rinse off.
Give your oven a clean
If your oven doesn’t have a self-cleaning function, put a hot, wet cloth on top of baked-on grime to help to soften it. A sprinkle of baking powder and a heavy-duty scouring pad will finish off the job. Then simply rinse it off and dry.
Easy peasy microwave cleaning
A quick and easy way to remove food spills in your microwave is to fill a microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water, a chopped up citrus fruit, and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar.
Pop it in the microwave on its highest setting until the solution boils and the microwave is filled with steam. Then it should be easy to wipe any mess off of the inside and outside with a clean sponge.
Remove stubborn stains from your chopping boards
Rubbing the cut side of a lemon wedge over a chopping board can help to remove both stains and nasty lingering smells.
Sprinkling it with salt or baking soda first can supercharge the cleaning effect of the lemon.
Spruce up your shower curtains
Pop your shower curtains in your washing machine with a few towels on the wool cycle with your normal washing powder. Then hang them up to dry.
Freshen up your children’s toys
Don’t forget to include your children’s toys in your spring clean.
Stuffed toys can be popped in a pillowcase and then into the washing machine on a gentle cycle.
Plastic toys, secured inside a mesh bag come out of the dishwasher gleaming clean after a quick wash.
