Dyserth is an ancient settlement with evidence of habitation dating back to the Neolithic Age. It was listed in the Domesday Book in 1086. There was a castle but it was destroyed in 1263. The remains were removed during World War I.
Mining was the main industry for many years but Dyserth Quarry was closed in 1981. Flour mills and fulling mills (related to cloth-making) were also important to the town. Some mill buildings can still be seen, now used as private homes.
The River Ffyddion flows through the town. When the Talargoch mines shut in 1884, the waterfall flowed again and has been a tourist attraction for over 100 years.
The Parish Church of St Bridget and St Cwyfan has several unusual features. Within the church grounds are a pair of rare Jacobean canopied tombs. The stained glass window has been described as the best example of a Medieval Jesse window in North Wales.
Dyserth High Street is home of the Dyserth Chapel, where the Horeb United Reformed Church meet. In 2007, they started a Community Food Cooperative and its been running ever since.
